The Class of 2017 received their Hood rings during their ring ceremony in Coffman Chapel April 10. Class President Chad Allen ’17 welcomed parents, alumni and friends to the ceremony, followed by opening remarks to the audience by President Andrea Chapdelaine, Ph.D. Alumna and member of the alumni executive board, Leah Giambarresi MacDonald ’03, C’05, M.S.’10, greeted guests on behalf of the board and discussed the history of the Hood Ring and the importance of a Hood Ring from the perspective of an alumna. Olivia White, Ph.D., vice president for student life and dean of students, provided guests with highlights from the Class of 2017. Later, President Chapdelaine presented students with their Hood rings, and the alma mater was led by student Carla Kronsbein ’17 with music played by Alexandra Skouras ’19. After all of the rings were presented came the moment students were waiting for—the ringing ceremony! Students were “ringed” by parents, family members and friends. Several students received legacy rings—rings donated by Hood alumni—and ring scholarships at the ceremony. This year, the alumni executive board awarded seven legacy rings and six scholarships. On April 6, the alumni executive board and the office of alumni relations hosted a wine and cheese reception in honor of the Legacy Ring and Ring Scholarship Program. Students, family, President Chapdelaine, friends and alumni gathered at East Cottage, the home of the president, for a celebration. Congratulations to the Class of 2017! The Hood Ring reminds students and alumni of their memories at Hood and provides a connection to their alma mater wherever their journeys take them in life! Thank you to our alumni and friends who contributed to the scholarship fund and donated legacy rings. Click here to learn more about the program.
