Spencer Knoll ’13, Nick Temple ’13 and Kristen Geatz ’15 are part of the cast and crew in Rockville Little Theatre’s production of Book of Days, one of the last works of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lanford Wilson. Reminiscent of Thorton Wilder’s Our Town, Book of Days is about a small southwestern Missouri town confronted by a violent death and forced to reconsider the world and values they thought they knew. Spencer plays James Bates, an aspiring politician and the ne’er-do-well son of one of the town’s most revered figures. Nick is Reverend Bobby Groves, a young, intelligent and ambitious fundamentalist preacher. Kristen serves as the assistant stage manager and a member of the production team.
Since graduating from Hood, Spencer, Nick and Kristen have all been involved with the Georgetown Gilbert and Sullivan Society (GGSS). Most recently, all three appeared in GGSS’ spring 2016 production of The Gondoliers. Previously, Spencer volunteered in a variety of technical roles with the group. Nick’s additional credits include Macbeth in Macbeth and Sir Lawrence Wargrave in And Then There Were None. During his time at Hood, he appeared in Hood College Theatre’s productions of Waiting for Godot, Cloud 9 and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom. Kristen also appeared as a Phantom in GGSS’ production of The Rocky Horror Show and served as assistant stage manager for Macbeth. During her time at Hood, Kristen was a proud member of the Hood College Dance Ensemble.
When asked to describe Hood in one word, you can see the love these three have for their alma mater. Spencer described Hood as engaging. “Hood gave me the opportunity to get involved with a variety of civic, social and political organizations on and off campus that have enhanced my life and career,” he said. Kristen remembered the Hood community as supportive. “The Hood community was always supportive of my goals and dreams, whether they be in the classroom, with student groups, or with my future career.” Nick called Hood home. “For four great years, Hood was home quite literally. Now, every trip back is a homecoming; a return to the place so critical to who I am today.”
